Norsut Laeolox was a member of the Bounty Hunter Brotherhood. Nicknamed "Cyclops" for his distinctive face - namely, having a single eye in the middle of his face. While his eyesight wasn't as bad as one would be led to think - his field of vision was extremely wide - it probably says something that he was primarily taught to rely more on his other senses in combat.

Norsut was very good at his job, and specialised in hunting mages who had gone rogue. (It helped that he was a well-trained mage himself.) However, many 'dragons found it difficult to get along with him, largely owing to his abrasive, outspoken and stubborn nature. Ironically, one of the people he grew closest to was abrasive, outspoken and stubborn herself - one would think that this would lead to a clash of personalities, but Norsut and his last apprentice, Marei Kynigos, got along quite well...

...well enough that he was willing to sacrifice his own life to make sure that she escaped from a powerful and deranged Rapitelli mage.

Appearance

In life, Norsut was massive; standing at over 2.5 metres (8"2' approx.) in height and with a heavyset build, he was easily as big as a Khell. He lacked their long fur, though, instead having thick and wrinkly hide with a dark teal colour. He had black hair which he often wore in a samurai-esque topknot.

Some Lukuo get off lucky, and end up with minor and/or beneficial mutations. Some don't. Norsut was a mix of the two; his thick hide saved his life on several occasions, being too difficult for most creatures (and 'dragons) to bite and hold onto. The rest of his mutations were inconvenient at best, and a handicap at worst.

Most prominent was his eye: a large, singular eye in the centre of his face. This eye had two irises, one yellow and one white, with the actual "whites" of the eye being black. While he had a very wide field of vision, his depth perception suffered as a result. Thus, he learned to rely more on his other senses for navigation and combat.

His other mutations were not as prominent; he had an extra thumb on his left hand and four extra canine teeth.

History

Norsut wasn't particularly willing to talk about his personal history; nonetheless, some research shows that he hatched in Aurius. He received a scholarship to the Pjaunfaubaj School of the Arcane, and joined the Bounty Hunter Brotherhood shortly after graduating. When asked about why he turned away from the possibility of becoming a high-ranking mage, he would either grumble about how they "never wanted to do important vaak", or rant about how they never wanted to do important vaak.

Earning his codename and passing his apprenticeship early on, Norsut quickly gathered a reputation for being good at his job, but difficult to get along with. In time he also became notorious for getting his apprentices killed; his first four all ended up dying on the job. Though unconfirmed, there were rumours that he was also having difficulties with his personal life, going through multiple relationships that ended badly; if this were true, it would go some way towards explaining why he became so surly and abrasive.

All of this meant that when he took on a fifth apprentice - one Marei Kynigos - his coworkers weren't very confident that either of them would do well. So naturally, it was a shock when the fiery little Feydragon somehow managed to break through his barrier and become a true friend.

More shocking, though, was that Marei was the one who broke the curse of Norsut's apprentices being killed - instead, it was Norsut who died in action, when on the trail of a Rapine worshipper. To this day, only Marei knows exactly why the big Lukuo decided to cast a spell that would make his target's entire body explode in a gory mess... especially knowing that the backlash from such a powerful spell would kill him too.

Miscellaneous

  • Norsut's trades were Archon and Light Lore, Elemental Sorcery, and Sightless Fighting. He reached Master rank in all of them.
