Arkatrosi are very minuscule insects that have very long skinny bodies that can be up to 4 cm long. They gleam iridescent green or blue when exposed to light. These insects have six skinny translucent wings that move so quickly that they are nearly impossible to see with the naked eye. These wings also make a very soft but still audible hum. There are many who love the sound of the Arkatrosi and use recordings of its wings beating in order to fall asleep at night in the big cities. Arkatrosi possess six legs, but are unable to walk very well. They are among the fastest flying insects on all of Ramath-lehi.

While the Arkatrosi is considered to be relatively harmless, they are blood-eating pests and have been known to pick up and carry diseases. It is impossible to feel the sting of an Arkatrosi, and not many realize that they have been bitten until hours after the fact when the small puncture wounds tend to become itchy.

Habitat

Arkatrosi are found primarily in Boreios Sudesha where they are frequently farmed for their silk. Although they have been found in other temperate zones all over the planet Ramath-lehi. They are most often found around coastlines and stagnant bodies of water. They have the ability to survive and flourish in both freshwater and saltwater.

Life Cycle

The Arkatrosi go through four stages in life: egg, larvae, pupae, and adult. These four stages all happen within the span of two weeks, and an adult Arkatrosi can live for up to five months before dying of natural causes. Adult females lay their eggs in stagnant water, such as water pools in the hollow of trees, or even buckets. These eggs then hatch and turn into larvae. The larvae consume whatever is available and then turn into pupae. After they have evolved in sites of the pupae, it comes out as an adult Arkatrosi. If the pool of water that has Arkatrosi eggs in it dries out, they will remain unharmed and hatch later when they are again covered with water.

Arkatrosi Silk

The Arkatrosi are prized primarily for their larvae. The larvae produce an extremely fine fibre while spinning their cocoons and becoming pupae. These fibres are then painstakingly gathered and used to make some of the most luxuriant clothing in the galaxy. Arkatrosi silk is the most exported natural resource from Boreios Sudesha, where Ramathians farm them specifically for this purpose.
