Fact File
Classification: Annual
Frequency: Uncommon
Size: Small
Biome(s): Boreal Forest, Caves, Grassland, Temperate Forest
Uses: psychoactive drug

Nujeq grows in short patches close to the ground. It can be easily recognized when it’s in bloom due to its purple bud and flowers. It is relatively uncommon, but can be be found in areas with temperate forests, occasionally the mouths of caves, and it has spread into grass lands. It is not found near or around any swamplands as it drowns when there is too much moisture.

Due to the plant’s hardy nature and the fact that it does not need much care and water, Nujeq is a very widely grown by individuals. It is very popular in home gardens.

Nujeq is not considered to be very addictive. Alcohol and caffeine are actually more addictive than Nujeq.

The recreational use of Nujeq dates back many millennia, and does not appear to have much of a negative stigma attached to it. It’s fairly common to see Ramathians smoking, or chewing on a piece of Nujeq gum while out in public.

Effects

The immediate effects from consuming Nujeq, either inhaled or through ingestion, include relaxation and mild euphoria, while some negative side-effects include dry mouth, impaired motor skills and reddening of the eyes. Very few adverse health effects have been documented from chronic Nujeq use. However, those who smoke Nujeq instead of ingesting it, will often experience some respiratory damage.

Many Ramathians actually have either a Nujeq intolerance or allergy. It’s estimated that at least 20% of Ramathians do not experience their desired “high” or that their Nujeq consumption brings upon unwanted hallucinations. This makes them react much more strongly to the substance. If you react very strongly, it’s recommended that you seek medical attention.

Legal Status

It is completely legal to be in possession of, consume, traffic, grow, and sell Nujeq.

Nuzu

While growing Nujeq is legal for both personal and commercial purposes, it is illegal to combine it with Rizu. This combination is known on the streets as Nuzu, and it has been steadily flowing into Bhim’s Black Market for centuries. Nuzu is incredibly hazardous to one’s health. While not particularly addictive, it has been known to cause extreme hallucinations, manic behaviour, and sometimes sudden death. There is a very high rate of premature death among regular Nuzu smokers. Nuzu is very easy to detect, as it gives of a very strong clinical odour when smoked, which regular Nujeq does not.
