"Profits of what?" she asked impatiently, "Surely you don't expect me to steal something for y..."[/COLOR Something clicked. "Blackmail? How original. How do you come up with these schemes?" she said with sarcasm dripping off each word.
A crooked smile slid its way onto Polgara's face. "Easily, my dear Toxica. Didn't you ever wonder why I kept you out of jail? It wasn't just a whim. I do expect something back." She stared into Toxica's eyes. "And don't try to hypnotise me, dear. Remember, my special friend I wanted you to meet. I can call her, and get her to come here immediately. And she could do her special trade to you, if you'd like." Meanwhile, Ador had backed up against the wall. Time to employ her secondary trade. She ran for it, and didn't think about what Polgara and Toxica would think. But she left a note for Toxica, scratched on the sapphire. It said: 'Meet me at my place. Out of her sight. We need to talk.'
Toxica stared for a moment at Polgara, fire in her eyes. Then she sighed. "Fine. If it'll keep me out of this hellhole... where the hell is she going?" Both thills turned to see Ador flee. A scratch on the sapphire caught Toxica's eye. She read the message and understood. "Oh, never mind. I agree,"
Polgara narrowed her eyes at Toxica. "Are you sure? I can always return you there ... However, I need a special job done first. Are you up to it? And remember what will happen if you're not ..." She cracked her knuckles. At Ador-Kal's house Ador sat in a comfortable chair, and waited. Toxica should turn up soon, she thought.
A vampiric smile replaced the crooked one on Pol's face. "Why, of course, I want you to steal something. Not a something though, a someone." Ador-Kal's house Ador was becoming worried. It had been twenty-five minutes since she had run out of Polgara's office. Toxica still hadn't turned up, and as far as she knew, Polgara was conning her into some other theft. Little did she know what Pol was planning.
"So I was half right when I said a kidnapping before. Fantastic, isn't it. Did you plan Ador's flight? Or is it someone I don't know. I really don't want to steal some kid away from their families..." She hit a painful memory. She remembered when she was young... but that didn't matter. "Okay I will. I won't like it, but I will."
Polgara's grin grew even larger. She leant over the desk, and was on the verge of telling Toxica who to kidnap, when a lower-ranked officer burst into her office. "Sorry, ma'am, but we have a report that someone has been trafficking unwanted materials on the street. We'll need you downtown." "Oh, that's okay, officer. I was just interrogating this wrong-doer here." Polgara flicked a glance at Toxica, to imply that if she broke the cover, she would be dead. Majorly dead. The curious officer looked at the grey thill, and shrugged. "But we're going to need you now, Detective, ma'am, though."
"Two minutes arden," snapped Toxica. This caught him off guard and he moved away. "Okay Pol. Tell me. name, age, and why?"
"Well, his name is Potel Mretok, 8 year old, politically motivated. And I need him here by sundown tomorrow. You'll find him at Janardan. He's got curly brown hair, draconic wings, brown eyes, grey fur like yours, and a short tail. Get on it." She turned away from Toxica, and walked out the door to the expectant officer. "See you tomorrow, prisoner," she called back to Toxica.
Toxica nodded at Polgara. She quickly sprinted out of the office and into the street., 'Out of her sight' was the last line of the message. Could Ador help her? all three thills were, shall we say, not quite legal, but she was sure that Ador wouldn't want an eight year old kid taken from his family. At least, she hoped so. Round the corner, past that massive tree. Finally she was at Adors house. She knocked on the door.
Ador sat in her chair, nibbling at her fingernails, when there was a knock on her door. Her first instinct was to answer it, her second to hide. She gnawed on her fingernails a bit longer, before she decided to open the door. Outside was a puffing Toxica. She looked a bit worried, but nevertheless, confident. "Glad you're here," Ador whispered. "Come in." She checked the horizon for any police, before she gestured for Toxica to come into her house.
"Ador, I need help. Once you ran away, things really go interesting." Toxica launched into a long winded explanation of Polgaras demands. "...so, she wants me to kidnap this kid. Any suggestions?"
Ador smiled. "We go and find him, that's what. But we're going to need some help." Out of Character

The End.
