Yin Alstrasz

  • Attentive
  • Empathetic
  • Friendly
  • Knowledgeable
  • Observant
  • Patient
  • Steady
  • Description

    Preliminary Notes
    • The Alstrasz family is very clannish, they pride themselves in having multiple mutations, one could go as far as to say they are attempting to breed as many mutations as they can into every child. The family is open to most everyone as long as there is a promise of a chance to pass on a new mutation, after several generations of this behavior even the children with comparatively 'few' mutations are very easily identified as being Lukuo.
    • The Alstrasz family holds a tradition of staying within professions that require in-depth knowledge of life sciences. Many members of the family hold research positions related to genetics and embryology - they are very serious about passing on recessive genes and mutations.
    • All members of the Alstrasz family are born with extra fingers and/or toes

    Occupational Notes
    • Yin specializes in pediatric occupational therapy, though she takes patients of all ages.
    • She only deals with patients who have minor to severe mobility issues.
    • Yin typically makes house calls to patients, though twice a week she does work in a major hospital in Ajita.
    • She works with architects often as her patients generally need solutions implemented into their homes to aid them in their daily routines.

    Appearance
Yin has always been unusually small, she hit 4'6" at the age of 11 and promptly stopped growing. While it's highly inconvenient for her as she goes through her daily routines, this small abnormality is just one of many that her family prides itself on. She'd never give her weight if you asked, but she's not exactly supermodel thin, since her childhood it has always been very hard for her to keep weight off. These days she follows a strict exercise regimen and keeps a diet that is very limited in sweets and similar items though they are her favorite. As it is, she could still stand to lose a few pounds and would like to, but at the same time she realizes if she lost weight the curves she enjoys wouldn't fill out quite the way they do.

In a word, Yin is technicolour. Soft orange skin nearly clashes with her long, light-blue hair. Two sets of acid green horns protrude just above her ears and a few inches back from her hairline. The first horn is about 10 inches long and curves back slightly, while the second horn is a little less than 4 inches and tilts back. In opposition with the yellow-green horns, Yin's eyes are of a bright pink hue.

Furthering the clashing colours, Yin's mis-matched wings are not only strange in appearance, but they are utterly useless when it comes to flying. Her left wing is bat-like and covered with very thick, leathery, light purple skin. There is very little muscle beneath the skin, making the wing seem flat. Yin can flex the joints and extend her wing or fold it back, but that's about it. Her right wing is decidedly more fey in appearance and she likely inherited it from her mother who is a full-blooded Kynnyn Feydragon. As opposed to her resilient bat-wing, Yin's fey wing is fairly delicate, she has to be careful when she extends it, so it usually remains folded down. In this position both the upper and lower half of the wing lower and fan across the right half of her back instead of being held vertical. The wing itself is of a light, iradescent, gossamer material that catches light very easily, this makes the wing appear opaque even though that is not actually the case.

Like all members of her family, Yin was born with extra digits. While she has the normal amount of toes, she has 7 fingers on each hand, 6 normal fingers and 1 thumb per. It should also be noted that she doesn't have a true tail. Instead, 3 long and very strong feathers protrude from the base of her spine, just before the start of her sacrum. The feathers cannot be pulled out as the shaft is bone and does connect with the spinous processes of her lowest lumbar vertabrae.

Yin is very much aware of her many colours, because of this all of her clothing, save for casual jeans, comes in shades of black, white and grey. The backs of her shirts and coats are tailored to be very low so that she can comfortably put them on and take them off without risking damage to her fey wing.

    Personality
Yin has always been a very laid back and calm 'dragon. It takes little effort for her to be able to remain composed when dealing with stressful situations, and even performs better under such conditions. She's not really the talkative type, so making small-talk with her patients is difficult. However, if her patient starts a conversation, Yin has no problems maintaining the back and forth discourse with a generally good nature.

Even as a child, Yin was always a problem solver. She enjoyed logic puzzles and games with complex rules. This has helped greatly in her line of work, beause every patient needs different issues addressed. She can't just write up a perscription, she has to look at all of the facts, take into account whatever disability her patient has, and tailor a custom solution to their life.

It should be noted that Yin hates paperwork with a passion. Almost all of her records are digital and include video clips, images and recordings. She does very few write-ups and generally they are for the hospital she works for. Usually she records information on her phone and then transfers it to her computer at the hospital. Because of this Yin always carries her phone and access to it is locked with a 12-digit alphanumeric code, if the wrong code is entered 5 times in a row, the data wipes itself to protect her patients.

Yin enjoys the work she does and so she doesn't mind putting in overtime, often making special visits out to patients during her days off if necessary. She loves that what she does directly helps her patients and because of her passion for it she has a waiting list of prospective patients. This waiting list is reserved for adults, if a child is in need of her services they are automatically taken on. This is because she is one of a very small few who specialize in pediatrics, and the only federally certified occupational therapist for severe mobility issues in children.

It could be said that Yin is a workaholic, but in her off-time she has hobbies. She goes to the gym early every morning before getting ready for work as a way of keeping weight off, but also as a way to clear her head before she starts the day. Aside from this, in good weather she enjoys gardening. She also has two dakestoes named Hasha and Kirsha. She allows them to roam around her small house as well as romp in her large, fenced-in property. The high brick wall around her house is too keep her pets in, not to keep visitors out. The two take up a lot of her time at home, and she reads aloud to them nightly

    History
    Very much under construction

    Misc.
She found both dakestoes in her back yard when they were very young, young enough that they couldn't fend for themselves. She had no idea how they ended up there and against her better judgement after doing some research on them, she kept them in hopes that if they led their entire lives in the care of a 'dragon they wouldn't grow up to be as dangerous as they were in the wild. This is partly true though they do have the urge to hunt. Yin has gone as far as buying smaller mammals from pet stores, meant to be food for safer creatures to satisfy this urge in them and it is doing reasonably well. This being said, she has been bitten before and will likely be bitten in the future. When it comes down to it dakestoes are wild animals and should not be made pets, the reason for what success she has had is because she began caring for them when they weren't more than a few days old. Instead of taking them to a regular vet she has to pay extra for a specialist with a team of professionals to come and take care of their health once or twice a year. It should also be noted that Yin had to do a fair amount of research and get all sorts of permits to own the two creatures, she is visited at random times throughout the year to insure the safety of both the dakestoes and those living around her.

Hasha is the friendlier of her two pets, he loves to meet new people and is incredibly smart. He also tends to get into mischief inside the house while Yin is at work, so unless the weather is bad, he is almost always outside when there is no one home. He has taken to sitting or laying atop the wall around the property and looking out, however he has no intrest in actually going past the wall, the few times Yin has tried to 'walk' him because he seemed to have an interest in the outside world, it has led to him choking himself on the chain in efforts to try and get back to the house. Kirsha isn't unfriendly, but is generally shy. When new people come over she will hide behind furniture for the first hour or so, however in familiar company she will show herself and generally lay next to whoever gives her the most treats (generally dead inths). Kirsha isn't nearly as bright as Hasha, but what she lacks in intelligence she makes up for by generally being cute. She doesn't cause much trouble while Yin is away and prefers to stay indoors, generally in a sunbeam. Her behavior has been noted by those in the permit offices and local zoos as being highly unusual and likely due to her seeming lack of intelligence.

Yin was born an identical twin, she and her sister were 'mirror image' twins. If you put them facing each other they would be an exact mirror of the other. Yin's sister, Shou, suffered a spinal cord injury among others in an automobile accident when she was 15. She was wheelchair-bound for the next 6 years. She eventually died due to complications related to the double-lung transplant she received about 8 months after the date of the injury. It was during the period after the accident that Yin became her guardian and caretaker by choice. Because of this, she became aware of how Shou's entire life had to be restructured to give her the most independence possible, something Shou wanted very much but no longer thought she could have again. After Shou died, Yin took it upon herself to go into occupational therapy so she could give other young people the same sense of independence. She specializes in pediatric care because early intervention and restructuring is generally the only way to keep children from feeling inferior or dependent.
