Out of Character

50th Dyo 81379 Where: Somewhere around in Pwa (possibly in the middle) When: Before sunset

Veaji dragged her feet along the sandy ground. She'd tried to find her home from long ago but to no avail. She realized she'd not come back in a very, very long time. She'd gotten herself lost with no food and no compass. Thank goodness for teleportation. Even so, she didn't feel like going back to Swaraj, her supposedly new home. The nightmares that taunt and haunt her day and night came from this land. And she wasn't about to give up finding her home yet. She must. She needed to. She didn't know what for, but she felt that she needed to find her ancient home and possibly end her nightmares. Seemed almost impossible. But hey, an anubi can hope, right? The slight desert wind picked up her long hair and made it dance. The sun was slowly sinking down but won't be gone for another 40-55 minutes or so. She kept walking straight, passing many sand dunes and a couple of cactuses. If she could find the ruins, she could get some rest. Her body was tired from walking the whole day and she doubt she'd enough concentration to teleport to Swaraj. If only she could ask someone for directions. Preferably someone from her last anubian tribe. Seemed unlikely, though. The desert was deserted as usual.
Shadow sighed as he sat upon a sand dune, he was watching the sun set or so he thought, his mind wandered elsewhere. to his mother and father when he was small. "shadow, sweetheart wake up before your father gets home" he remebered being shaken "five more minutes...." and that was all he wished to remember, that one moment before his father came home, with him in bed still...and his mother still alive.... he out streched his wings feeling the wind around him the deserted sands and for some reason he had the urge to shout out "HELLO!" his ears twitched to hear of the impossibility of another 'dragon. it as he was listening he felt something stab at his vampire heart. lonliness. what i would do for company he sighed like in the old days..........
Maybe she could see far on one of those sand dunes. She looked for the highest one and started climbing up. The sands that were carried by the wind was irritating her eye. She looked at the ground and watched her feet move. Almost there... Then she hit something and almost lost her balance. She looked up and saw a pendragon with wings outstretched. He didn't look anubi and Veaji's immediate reaction was to ask (rudely, of course) what he was doing here. But what made her stop was that the pendragon looked oddly familiar. She shifted her position to see his face. Shadow?
Shadow jumped up and turned round growling how do- Veaji? is that you? wow it is! hey how have you been? his reaction changed dramatically what brings you out to this deserted place? he gave her a wide smile. wow looks like the gods answered me, in a very nice way indeed he thought
Veaji was a little surpirsed at the perkiness of Shadow. Maybe the heat was doing something to his brain. She can't help but smile back a little to his really wide one. I'm looking for my old place. I don't know if it still exist anymore but I'm gonna try to find it no matter what. she said. She was a little happy on having someone familiar around although he wasn't an anubi. I'm pretty beat up by walking so much. I forgot where the place was so I can't teleport there. How are you?
hummm.... he hesatated i'm alright.... same old, same old with me. what excactly are you looking for? cos i saw a little town about a mile ahead or you looking for a native settlement kinda thing? he had calmed down now, now that he thought about his reaction to seeing her he was feeling a bit embarrassed. his tail swished slightly in the sand making a wave pattern in the sand do want a drink or something? i have a pitcher of water, even i get thirsty for other drinks... he said handing it out to her, giving a little smile. she was looking a bit parched he thought. Out of Character

me back!!!!

i saw a little town about a mile ahead... She snapped into full attention. All the dreamyness and the need to go back to a nice bed vanished. A town? What sort of town? she asked, her eyes alert and a little intense. It was difficult finding towns in deserts. Especially anubi places. Even an anubi like her can't even find her old place. Now her vampire friend has found it and there was a 50% chance that the town was the one she was looking for. Can you show me where you'd seen this place? Then Shadow mentioned something about water. Well, she was thristy. She hadn't had a drink for the whole day out of the excitement of finding her long lost home. She took the pitcher, feeling a little weird by being helped. She never get that often. Thanks.
no prob, umm the town... rural, nice locals they kept smiling at me when i took a wander for supplies, even gave me a charm thingy, see... he held out a leather necklace, covered with intracite bone carvings of what looked like little dragons and feathers, with randon looking coloured beads. i can fly us there if you wish, you're not heavy. it'llonly take ten mins or so... or we can walk? he looked at the charm necklace do you have any clue what this is all about?
Her hopes began to decrese when Shadow said they'd given him something. The old place she knew were never friendly to outsiders. But maybe as time pass they'd changed? Who knew? She'd have to investigate and see if it really is her long lost home. If not, she could at least ask for directions. Shadow had volenteered to fly her there. Bein the proud anubi that she is, she decline. That's okay, she said. I'd rather walk. Let's go. You show me the way. And she started to go down the dune.
yeh, sure, one moment... he closed his eyes... that way he pointed over to their left and continued to walk... it'll be dark soon i think, so i dont know if it possible to get a place to sleep there... what does this bit lookelike, or looked like??
Veaji followed Shadow as they started to walk west. Yes, I suppose night will fall. she answered and then urged Shadow to walk faster. Deserts at night can be dangerous for a non-anubi. We must reach the place as soon as we can. My village was built a very long time ago. Probably a few hundred years. It's built of stone and basically looks grand although it's stones are worn from those years. Veaji said, trying hard to remember what her place looked like. I'll know it once I see it. It's pretty hard for me to describe. She glanced at Shadow, wondering what he was doing so late in a place like this. Don't you have a place to go home to tonight? A family waiting for you, perhaps?
they wait in fromina... he sighed i'll be fine in this area, anubi or not, remember, im no normal dragon either... he changed the subject hey, even if this town isn't what your'e looking for, then one of them might know something about it... do they have connections with tradesmen?
Veaji, being sensitive on the subject of lost families, decided not to press further about Shadow's kin. The last before I left them, they're still trading most of their stuffs with other anubi clans. I don't know about now, but I hope that they still do. They walked a little more as the sun slowly sinks down to it's bed and darkness chose to come closer. Further up ahead, Veaji could catch a glimps of orangy light. Two poles held fire on top of their heads, marking the entrance. Nodding towards the light, Veaji asked, Is that the place?
i think so, but we have been walking for ages... i thinkk so, hey if you want, do you want to grab a bite of food and maybe a coffee or something? he askd summoning a orb of light to float near the ground so they could see where they were going
Veaji hesitated. She'd never been invited for coffee before. She never liked to spend time with other anubis much less a vampire. But even though she would never had thought of spending her time with a non-anubi, doesn't mean she can never experience it and have a little fun. It took awhile before she responded. Okay. I guess I need some stuff in me. They reached the entrance. Two anubian guards were standing at each pole. One of them held an expression of recognition as he set his eyes on Shadow. Come back to visit again, sir? That your friend, sir? He asked before letting Veaji and Shadow through the gates. The village was nothing fancy like Veaji's but it somehow hold and aura of welcome and warmth. Dim lights held by torches lined up streetways, huts and houses were neatly placed in order and shops and cafes could be seen around each corner. Veaji was immediately greeted with smiles from passing village members. A Kiom welcomed the two and gave Veaji an odd looking souvenier. A few of them said 'welcome back' to Shadow. A few travelling traders could be seen packing up their items for sale and getting ready to find a place to sleep. Hmm, Shadow. You're lucky to have stumbled upon friendly people of the desert. Veaji commented.
yeah, first time ive had such a welcome, but i'm guessing this isn't your clan then or you'd be a bit happier... he gave her a half smile before looking for a nice cafe, how bout that bit? he asked directing her towards a little cafe called the ChatterBox they have really good mochas' and hot chocolates, actually everything in there is nice, i tried them... he pushed open the door quietly, a wooden chime clacking as he opened the door wider for veaji to enter. he went up to the counter taking a menu and sittting down on the opposite side of the table from veaji. handing her the menu he claspeed his hands sitting them on the surface lightly looking down at them while veaji had a flick through the menu, he already knew what he was ordering the foods great in here too, soul in a bowl is great, you get a bit of everything...actually its all good. he paused do you have anywhere to stay?
Veaji sighed. No, they're not my clan. she said. They never act like this. she finished in her head. Shadow was talking about the ChatterBox Cafe. It looked decent enough so Veaji followed Shadow in the building. The contents in the menu was interesting too. She read some food and drinks she'd never heard of before. Veaji noticed that Shadow was just flying his eyes through the menu. Guess he already knew what he wanted. I guess I'll try this Emavyem tdikyel. As for drink, Hot Choc Mocha sounds nice. Veaji said more to herself than to Shadow. do you have anywhere to stay?... Veaji looked up at Shadow. She took a moment to think before she answered. But what was she to answer? She didn't want to let him know that she mostly spend her nights sleeping up on a tree branch in Swaraj or just wondering around until she wear herself out and lay down wherever she was. She hadn't the cash to pay for an inn either. She let her eyes fall back on the menu, pretending to look through them again. Well, I guess I have one... somewhere. she muttered her reply. Why the question?
shadow looked sadly at veaji, he knew what it was like to be away from your clan, he always wished he could go back to his... watching her look up at him after his question he noticed her pause before answering. worriedly thinking he had offended the femme in some way he quickly tried to set things straight again i was just wondering y'know case you never had anywhere, theres a bed and breakfast round this town somewhere and i've already booked a place. if you want you can come with me? he though over his answer, then realising how it might sound to her he added with me sleeping in a different room of course...
Veaji was grateful for Shadow's proposal but she was eager to find her village. She gazed out of one of the ChatterBox many windows. Does it still exist or did it perish? She wanted to know what happened after she left. But she was also feeling tired from the long day. And definitely she won't be able to keep her eyes open much longer after a meal. Just then a waitress arrived to take their order. Veaji said her order and the waitress turned to Shadow for his. After jotting down the orders the waitress took the two menus, turned and left. You don't need to go through trouble getting another room. I'm enough trouble to most people already. But I guess I could do with someplace to bunk. Veaji lightly said. Then suddenly a question popped into her head. She studied Shadow for a moment, wondering to ask or not. She decided to take the chance. Shadow... she started, How d'you come to be a vamp? I mean, you don't excactly look like the pure breed type... maybe you are, but I don't know...
he looked at her.... no point in lying he thought openly i'm a half breed he sighed, half true vamp, half true weredragon on my mothers side... hence my transformation abilities, i say i'm a pure breed because its easier... he looked down at the table beginning to think of his family.... but anyway he chirped masking his emotions, you can stay with me... i have a little flat thing for the night i'll sleep on the sofa... then if you want i can help you find your village, first thing... the waitress then came over with their hot drinks looking down at his hot chocolatet he sighed again, tiredness was begginning to overcome his mind.
