Quarter: Tessera Day: 35 Year: 81377 (3) The young female shut the door to her room with a soft click, and retreated into a corner. For some reason, she cocked her head and listened in silence, and when there was no sign of anyone being nearby, she relaxed and let the music come forth. At first she simply hummed softly, the volume building very, very gradually, almost imperceptibly. When she'd gone up and down an octave or two she let the sound come more freely, and in words. Her golden eyes closed as she immersed herself in the melodies she sang, feeling the music.
Yet was there really no one nearby? Soft footsteps, of light paws, padded along the dreary stone corridor in front of the Pendragoness's room. A stranger to these walls, to this part of the underground dormitory maze, a black Pendragon, stopped just in front of the closed chamber, his head cocked to one side, his eyes narrowed and a somewhat stunned expression, which slowly turned to a stupid smile of pure pleasure, pure happiness, plastered across his maw. He sat there, in the middle of the narrow corridor, for a few minutes, listening to the melody, accompanied by soft golden words. The he stood up, his small, yet lean body reflecting the light yellowish hue of the lamps that were set in ancient brackets, left here from the medieval times when the inhabitants of the academy still used blazing tree-blood torches. Suddenly deciding, he took a step forward, gently nudged the door ajar and pulled himself inside the room, his eyes on the singing pendragon.
As she heard the soft creak of the door she swallowed the last of the song and shut her mouth with a snap, looking around somewhat frantically for some place out of sight where she could hide from whoever it was that had trespassed into her room and heard her singing. Seeing nowhere, she forced herself to be calm, forced herself to meet the eyes of the other 'dragon. It was hard, and she couldn't keep herself from blushing. Someone had actually heard her singing. Her golden eyes kept wanting to dart away in embarrassment, but by sheer force of will she held them. What had she been thinking? Of coarse there were people around, places like these were rarely truly empty.
Aurora, a young white pendragon was listening as well, but from further away because she seemed scared of the black pendragon. She approached the door slowly and peeked in, then immediately stuck her head back out and started talking really quickly."I'm sorry! I just couldn't help but listen.. your music's beautiful. I really wanted to listen.. I'm sorry!" she starts crying, also glowing a bit because of the black pendragon.
Hadara, hearing the femme 'dragon crying, pushed her own embarrassment aside, and slipped out of her room. Seeing how upset Aurora was, she smiled gently. "No, no, it's alright...." she tried to make her voice soothing, surprised at how much of an upset her singing had created. She turned and gave a shy shrug to the male.
She stopped crying, but she was still glowing. She stayed close to Hadara. She didn't dare let her eyes leave the sight of Rallyn, who's appearance still scared her.
Feeling sorry for causing such distress, Hadara put a paw around the young femme's shoulders. "It's alright..." she soothed gently, her voice soft and comforting. She had little experience with things like this, but her natural motherliness and empathy helped. She kept one eye on the black 'dragon, knowing he'd meant no harm but too occupied with the Aurora to apologize at the moment. This was, indeed, a rather awkward situation...
"He's scary!" Aurora leaned against Hadara "He won't hurt me... will he?"
OOC: I'm so, so sorry about not being here for a week. I was away with my dad on a decathlon, then sick, and then school squeazed me so hard I could barely breathe and catch about five hours of sleep every day. Sorry again, I will never leave like this ever again. P.S. .:scratches her head in wonder:. How could Rallyn scare anyone? Never mind... IC: His flame flickered green for a split second, then turned back to normal as he looked at the blinding white female, Aurora, with wonder in his eyes. He had heard her comments and she was obviously terrified of him. He wondered briefly why, then remembered he still hadn't given any sort of explanation to the older Pendragon, about why had he entered her room uninvited. He looked towards her, trying to look as trustworthy and un-scary as possible. "Uh... I'm sorry I just barged in here like this. I just happened to walk along the hall outside," he gestured towards the opened door and the stony corridor that lay beyond, "and heard you singing. You sing beautifully, yes, just lovely. I wanted to listen for a while. Didn't mean to scare you or anyone, though!" he added quickly, looking sideways and through half-closed eyes to blot out the radiant glow the young pup was now emitting. Rallyn looked around in exasperation, his paw up and over his eyes. "Stop it, please! I won't do anything to you, for Kythlekh's sake!" He moved in a wide circle around the two cowering girls, then stopped out in the hallway, still shielding his face. Yet one of his eyes peeked out from behind the barrier of black-green scales and looked apologisingly to Hadara. "I guess I should leave now, probably. Never imagined I could cause such distress by only my appearance." But he stayed on the spot, shuffling his paws a little as if to stop the cool stone floor from silencing him entirely.
OOC: Aurora is easily frightened by anything that looks like it might hurt her... IC: Aurora stopped glowing and walked cautiously up to Rallyn and sniffed him "You seem ok... I'm sorry..." a tear rolled down her cheek
Hadara smiled sympathetically at the male as he explains himself, trying to let him know where she stood on this matter. Once Aurora had gotten the courage to speak to him, she stepped forward and grinned a bit sheepishly, her golden eyes shifting uncomfortably. "No, it's fine. I'm...glad you like it." Her voice was soft but clear, and she looked truly but shyly pleased with the praise given.
Aurora looked at Hadara, and let out a silent giggle. She smiled for the first time she entered the dorm.
He shifted a little, then reached up gingerly and patted Aurora on the head. He withdrew his paw quickly though, not really knowing how he was expected to behave. Glancing up, he caught Hadara's last words and frowned a little: "Oh come on... Don't talk about it. But after all, why don't you use one of the music rooms to practise in? It's so dreary and lifeless here." He paused a little, then added with a swift shake of his head, smiling at Aurora: "I'm sorry if I scared you. I guess it could be rather awkward when you enter a room and see a silent black 'dragon standing there, in a corner." He laughed again, a cheerful little sound that echoed around them, flying at last to the far ends of the network of the halls and dormitories below ground level. "Between, I'm Rallyn. Rallyn Luckest, but I just don't like it when others call me by my surname. It makes me feel as if I wasn't myself, but someone else."
Aurora nodded "It's ok. You just reminded me of..." She Trailed of a bit, then continued "But you aren't one of them..." she looked down at the ground.
Hadara felt foolish for not thinking of using the music rooms before...she could've saved herself a bit of embarrassment that way. She blushed almost unnoticeably and nodded, the blue feather she wore in her hair swinging slightly. "Thank you. I'll remember that."
Hadara felt foolish for not thinking of using the music rooms before...she could've saved herself a bit of embarrassment that way. She blushed almost unnoticeably and nodded, the blue feather she wore in her hair swinging slightly. "Thank you. I'll remember that."
"Oh, OK..." he stood rooted to the spot, looking fearfully from Hadara to Aurora. Then, summoning up all he had to stop his knees from buckling, he said in a cheerfull tone: "But let's do something else than just stand here! If you want, we could go for a small walk just around here, around the Academy. It's a quite nice day, and we could have some ice-cream...or hot chocolate, if it's too cold," he laughed, his fearful look changing to one of expectation. His flame flicked green for a split second, but then restored to its normal yellowy red plasma.
Hadara caught the color change in the male's tail-flame, and she also seemed to sense his strange nervousness, so she smiled gently. "That's a wonderful idea, Rallyn. Ice cream sounds good to me." She turned and glanced at Aurora, wondering if she wanted to come too. Then, remembering something, she turned back to the male. "Oh, I forgot. I'm Hadara Mahiin. Nice to meet you."
"Pleased to meet you too! Or Have I already said that?" He looked confused for a moment, then the worry dropped away from his face like a veil and he was the cheerful black-green Pendragon once again. "Well, actually, I know of a nice place not so far from the school..." he mused, talking in a half-voice to himself, remembering the way. At last he snapped his fingers (it did sound a bit odd - paws don't make the sound fingers can) and had he been in a comic, a light bulb would have alighted above his head. "Yep, it's just a few streets. They have about twenty different kinds of ice-cream and they mix it up in any order you want it." With lids half-dropped, his eyes shrouded themselves in a dreamy veil, and Rallyn jumped from his place, trotting into the passage behind him. "I'll lead the way. It's really not far."
