    Mid-morning

"What do you mean plan B?"

Karryasa sat back amongst the swirling mist. Her tail curled around her fore paws tightly like a child huddled in a corner hugging thier knees.

"Like a plan to fall back upon. Y'know like if the whole Arch Magosai thing falls through?"

Sari narrowed her eyes while the crooked smile on her lips grew. That crooked smile of hers annoyed Karryasa. It was mocking, and she did not like to be mocked.

"What are you getting at Sari?"

She never gives it to me straight. Why must she always toy with me? Karryasa shifted her weight uncomfortably. It was Sari's only means of having a bit of fun in her afterlife, but Karryasa felt that what she was getting to wasn't the sort of thing to mess with.

"Are you saying that Zamfir and I will lose power? Are we going to lose the council? Would you stop with the nonsense and just tell me?"

    Sari's smile grew even wider.

"Karryasa... I have told you before not to ask about the future I will not tell you. I was just making conversation."

Karryasa shook the scene of Fronima from her head. Her dream occurred three nights ago and no matter how hard she tried to dismiss it, Sari's meddling words always crept back into her thoughts. Zamfir had expressed his concern for her after the monthly council meeting. Karryasa's mind had strayed back to the dream in the middle of the council meeting and she had missed most of Ramix's report on magic safety. To top it off she had blurted out 'Enough of your mind games you conniving http://shadowlack.com/forums/index.php?act=Glossary&show=9Kiom</a>!' and had to excuse herself from the meeting. Zamfir knew something was up, but Karryasa decided not to tell him about her encounter with Sari; he already had to much to worry about.

Now Karryasa was making her way towards the Ajita art studio where she hoped to find Koani, her eldest daughter. There were certain aspects to her dream that left Karryasa no choice but to take seriously. With Sari's very Dragyn sense of humour Karryasa often had to read between the lines, and what she read this time was not good. Therefore she was left with a few errands to run, just in case.

She hadn't been to the building itself in years and hoped she could still find the jewelry wing. It was a cold morning, which Karryasa hated. The cold always aggravated Karryasa's side and made the fur under her bandages itch. A slight breeze made the air extra crisp, and made Karryasa quicken her pace.

Finally the building loomed over her, a tangled mass of brick and vine. The vines and weeds consumed the structure and made it appear more steadfast than it really actually was. Karryasa entered the building hurriedly and was disappointed to find the interior not much warmer than outside. At least there wasn't a breeze. Karryasa noticed almost immediately the dusty smell. She was wondering how Koani could work in this type of building when she noticed a portrait on the wall. Oh, this is the painting wing! Karryasa had entered the wrong end of the building.

Scrunching her nose up to avoid the dusty smell, Karryasa noticed that her whiskers felt particullarly heavy. She reached up with her hand and brushed a few half-frozen water droplettes off her face.

"Now which way to the jewelry wing?"

  2. Early morning... the sun still hadn't risen. Was this what her life was going to be like from now on? Sleepless and revolved around Ramath-lehi's three moons? Xabu, Cussla, and the not-so-perfect Lelres. Although it was now the beginning of Dyo, the air at this time of morning still had a wicked bite. Koani hadn't even bothered to turn on the heat in the building, let alone even bothered to turn it on in her own private studio. So it was cold. Her breath wafted out of her mouth in visible white curls as she talked to herself in a forbidden alien tongue. Why bother turning on the heat though? It was only her here. It would be a waste of energy. And besides, despite her scant clothing, the stove that she was working by gave off an ample amount of heat.

It had been three, no, almost four years now since she had returned to Ramath-lehi. This upcoming Tria would mark the fourth year. Almost four years past, and she still found herself with nothing. Of course, she was grateful to have returned to Ramath-lehi, but a large nagging part of her thought it never should have happened. She should have died. Ten years ago on Candrice IV, she should have died. She should have been found and buried alongside her husband, Saber. Yet she had returned, and returned to what? A son that had moved on without her. Siblings that had likewise moved on with their own lives, and of course, parents that were glad that she had returned. She was grateful to still have them all, but still it just didn't seem right. To top it all off, she had gone, and then returned to find that not much had changed at all. Her parents, the Graders, why, they were still and power. And her studio, this studio, had remained untouched. All of her instruments and tools, all of the projects that she had been working on... they had all been exactly where she had left them. Her parents had closed it down when she hadn't returned. Koani had found this greatly unnerving, but still she managed to pick up right where she had left off.

There were changes though. Pendragons reacted to her differently now. But for the most part, the changes that Koani was aware of, were the ones about herself. Her left arm, for starters, wasn't at all what it used to be. The muscle and a few nerves on her shoulder and chest area had been severely damaged, leaving the arm very weak, sometimes numb, and in Koani's opinion, next to useless. The scar itself was quite hideous, and although she could have undergone treatments in order to both fix the injury, Koani refused. To do so, at least to her, would be like trying to erase all that had happened.

"You http://shadowlack.com/forums/index.php?act=Glossary&show=71grraw</a> n stupid rrroaw..." Koani growled in a mixture of Rapine and English, the design that she had in mind to cast in silver wasn't working at all. She scratched out what she had done with a bit of an angry guttural snarl. It was then that she realized that she wasn't alone. Someone was watching her, watching her from the open doorway. Koani's violet ears flicked back, and the spikes along her spine stood up as she jumped violently to her feet, knocking over her small table of drawing utensils and scattering them across the floor as she did so. Her eyes widened as she saw who it was - her mother was framed in the doorway. "http://shadowlack.com/forums/index.php?act=Glossary&show=60Mmah</a>," she uttered, then realizing her mistake she quickly said, "Mom." Her heart sank down into her stomach as an ashamed blush began to rise in her cheeks.

Karryasa's ears layed glued flat to her head, barely even visable amongst her uneven hair. Well her good ear did. Her crippled right ear layed more to the side, as Karryasa had trouble swivling that one back. She stood in an uncomfortable silence, drawing out the tension of the already embarassing situation. Her lips were pursed tight and her tail didn't so much as flinch. The small amount of warmth was less than comforting. Karryasa's eyes narrowed as she finally spoke.

"Et shus hyf E juetap iyo? Fesh tokh fauc fell gyfaj shus iyo fyolp tleg rasfaam iyoj nyshaj lumdouda ump shus petdotsemd qujdym? Yj py iyo palerajusali emtols iyoj nyshaj? Ump iyo hup rassaj caag shus vyol syomda rahemp klytap legt em sha gjatamka yv iyoj vushaj..."

The pendragon witch's tail quivered as she spoke. Her words were quiet but venomous, spoken through clenched teeth. Halfway through her lecture she began to give off her signature orange aura. The Arch Magosai stretched up to her full height and took a step forward.

  4. Koani knew that she should be afraid. She should have been intimidated by her mother's harsh words and shrunk back. She should have been cowering and asking for forgiveness. It would have been what her siblings would have done. Heck, it would have been what any average pendragon would have done had they had the Arch Magosai's wrath directed at them. But Koani considered herself far from average now. Easily Karryasa could have killed her. Had she been anyone else, she probably would have been dead already. Speaking Rapine in front of a Magosai? And addressing a Magosai in such an awful tongue? That could only spell death. Yet Koani had a certain advantage. She was kin. Eldest daughter of the Graders. But even the strongest of blood ties could be severed with the right sort of cut.

Instead of growing fearful, the sheepish feeling in the pit of her stomach began to ebb away only to be replaced by a furious flame that fed and grew with her Mother's words. Why should she feel ashamed anyway? It was who she was now. Karryasa's orange glow rivaled that of the stove's, casting its magic tainted light on almost all of objects within the studio. It wasn't a harsh and blinding light, but a subtle and very ominous one. The witch had straightened herself out too, standing up as tall as she could as she took a step forward. Koani, albeit younger, was still taller than her Mother. And this fact alone reminded her - I'm all grown up now.

A short and balky laugh slipped from her muzzle as her eyes fastened onto those of her mother's with a contemptuous gaze.

"Juetap na? Iyo juetap na?!" Koani spat in fluent Ramathian, "Ump fhus uryos sha yshajt, hoh? Fhus uryos Sean, Alice, ump shaej lys? My pyors iyo cmyf fhus shai'ba raam og sy. Shaej pjodt, shaej tsogepesi, nojpaj abam! Pym's iyo puja sall na shus iyo'ba juetap na fham iyo'ba pyma tokh u lyoti qyr us juetemd shan! Sha tuna tsovv shai'ja ym ev iyo raleaba shus kjykc."

She was seething now. Ever since her return to Ramath-lehi, a wall had been growing between Koani and Karryasa. They had been distanced by the unfortunate seven year event and by secrets that each now kept from one another. Now seemed as good of a time as any to explode.

"Ump iyo kull shet u hyna? E'n tyjji, ros iyo nots ra netsucam. Abaj myseka hyf E'n sha ymli yma shus lebat haja, ratepat pauj ylp Pup? Abajiyma alta hut lavs iyo. Ut vuj ut E'n kymkajmap, E huba my hyna. Sha vuneli ump hyna shus E ymka hup et dyma! Rjycam."

Koani took in a sharp breath and snapped the pencil that she had been using in her right hand. She then tossed the broken pieces over her shoulder, snarling in English, "My foul tongue, as you call it, won't be controlled by the likes of you."

  5. Karryasa's eyes widened. She wasn't expecting quite the reaction she was getting. This act of insubordination was way out of line to be throwing at the Arch Magosai. She could feel her hackles raising. Any other pendragon would stand dead on their feet. Hell if it were Zamfir, Koani more than likely wouldn't have had the chance to back-talk. But this wasn't an argument between a Magosai and a subject. This wasn't even an argument between a Magosai and her daughter. This was an argument between a mother and a daughter.

"Pym's iyo sulc sy na uryos juetemd khelpjam! E duba ni gogt ull E kyolp ump ull shus pep fut sojm yos u romkh yv tgyelap rjust! E pep sha rats E kyolp rulumkemd iyo lys ump sha jatgymtereleseat yv dybajmemd u kebelexuseym. Ros iyo fyolpm's cmyf umishemd uryos jatgymterelesi, fyolp iyo? Fham iyo kum tes em shet pumc tsopey ump futsa ufui sha sena shus fut jatsyjap sy iyo! Iyo faja debam tynashemd gjakeyot Koani. U takymp khumka!"

In a flash Karryasa's right arm shot out towards a nearby display case. The case contained a few polished pieces of work laid out on a velvet material on hand carved shelves. The Magosai's elbow broke through the display glass and the rest of her forearm collided with one of the shelves, splintering the wood into pieces. Shards of glass sprayed across the floor and several glittered from her fur as Karryasa pulled her arm back. The display case was mangled. The glass would need to be replaced, and the wooden shelf was history. The pieces of jewelry could be salvaged. One of them, some sort of necklace dangled from a triangular glass shard that stayed upright on the lower frame of the case.

Karryasa's muscles were tensed so tightly they ached. Her long tailed flicked at the tip like an aggravated cat. Karryasa was usually a calm and collected individual. She preferred to harbor her emotions and discuss a possible solution for a problem rather than act upon it. Perhaps that's why her children walked all over her. They couldn't get in any trouble for the crimes they committed knowing they had a mother who would back them up at every whim. It was time for a change.

"Iyo'ja jedhs Koani. Yoj vuneli et rjycam myf. Ty fhi py iyo tsui? Ev iyo pym's maap na uminyja fhi py iyo tsell lemdaj haja?"

  6. That had done it. Karryasa's words combined with her actions had done it. Koani's blue-green eyes blazed with hate and hurt as they took in the destructive path her Mother's arm had laid in its wake. Shattered glass, broken wood... and some of her better pieces now lay scattered and mangled. Glinting in the fire light and orange aura, swinging from that lone jagged shard, was the necklace - it taunted her.

"You... you vanarrikach!" she roared, the Rapine curse coming naturally to her. Koani closed the distance between the two of them with several quick strides. Now she was practically shouting right into Karryasa's face as her temper sky rocketed. She had stopped speaking Ramathian as well. Ramathian was a language of scholars and prestige. Not one to fight with. "You call what I got a second chance? I call it a fluke! I should have died. What sort of honour-less death awaits me now, Mother? Do you know? No wait, even if you do know, I don't want to know. No death of mine would ever be even remotely comparable to the one that I could of had, should of had."

Koani threw her hands out in emphasis as best as she could. The lengthy spines along her back remained prickled as she continued. "This studio is really all I have left, and you know it. That is why I linger here. You think it's a waste of my time... why? And if you hated it so and my choice of trade, why didn't you get it torn down while I was gone? Why leave it here to fester in the back of http://shadowlack.com/forums/index.php?act=Glossaryunnii</a> mind?! I won't just let you forget about my absence. I won't let you just try to smooth things over and continue on as if nothing has happened. I changed, http://shadowlack.com/forums/index.php?act=Glossary&show=60Mmah</a>. Can't you see? As much as I hate it, the enemy has melded with me. Become http://shadowlack.com/forums/index.php?act=Glossaryine</a>. I am the enemy. Your enemy. Part ra-nine and part http://shadowlack.com/forums/index.php?act=Glossaryartak</a>!"

  7. Being a Magosai, Karryasa had a certain image to uphold. If she was to govern an entire civilization she had to have a stregnth about her. She had to carry herself with pride and dignity. She had taken the Grader name and in doing so vowed to uphold it's honour. Often at times Karryasa felt like a failure. It's hard to look strong and proud when you were covered in bandages and had to walk with a limp. But somehow she was able to pull it off, and many pendragons respected her for that. However, at this moment, every last whim of strength and pride rushed from the Arch Magosai.

She didn't know how to speak rapine, nor did she want to know. Yes, there were a few words she did understand. She wasn't sure what the exact translation of vanarrikach was, but she knew that it was an insult, and one of the worst at that. She also knew what http://shadowlack.com/forums/index.php?act=Glossary&show=60mmah</a> meant, and that it was not a slip of tounge as Koani said it again now.

Karryasa's eyes saddened and her shoulders slowly sank back. Her twitching tail froze. Any ounce of anger she felt was engulfed by sadness. She barely recognized the young female pendragon that stood before her. She had refused to to destroy the studio because she had refused to believe that her eldest daughter was really gone. But for the first time Karryasa felt like she had lost Koani, even though she stood before her now.

The cold finally caught up with the old crippled pendragon. Under her bandages the fur had slowly been worn away, and on such a cold morning as this, it would've paid to have that coat of fur. Karryasa took her eyes away from Koani's. She couldn't meet her gaze after the way she had just been treated. Instead she fixed her eyes far away. Her one good eye took on the appearance of the other as if it were fixed on Fronima itself. In a low, neutral voice, Karryasa spoke, reffusing to drop her ancient dialect.

    "E fell mabaj vyjdas."

Karryasa turned her back to Koani, and without a look back, headed through the door. She had already lost her stregnth and pride, and she wasn't feeling all that honourable. She began down the hall, slowly, as to hide her limp. Karryasa's eyes stung although she didn't cry. Not one tear would would be spilled upon her cheek. Karryasa swallowed back her feelings and held her head higher than she felt, for she was stubborn and refused to lose her dignity.

***OOC: Her comment was directed at this quote "I won't just let you forget about my absence."

  8. Koani's anger began to wither with her Mother's reaction. She'd grown sad instead of continuing to be angry as Koani had wanted. Karryasa seemed disappointed even? A wave of sickness washed over the younger pendragon and tugged at her insides. Then there was her response too: "E fell mabaj vyjdas." Koani had uttered a choked cry at this. Karryasa wasn't just some Mother out to send her child on a guilt trip because they had been bad. No. Her feelings were genuine, the real deal. Koani knew that she had hurt them as well. But she couldn't apologize. She couldn't apologize for who she was, or the painful family truths as she saw them. But she also couldn't let Karryasa just walk off to be with her own thoughts. Not with all of the anger and hate that Koani had just projected to her. And what if... what if her Mother told her Father about this incident?

"http://shadowlack.com/forums/index.php?act=GlossaryGrun</a>! Arrrg! No! Pym's dy!" she shouted, and bolted after Karryasa. "Glauta pym's dy." Koani said with pleading, glittering eyes, as she grabbed onto Karryasa's wrist to prevent her from leaving. "Iyo kuna sy taa na vyj u jautym, pepm's iyo?"
