Timestamp: Tria (summer), 81381 Who: Jynx Wearing: Jeans and a black muscle shirt Jynx sat on the bank, watching the water dance in the moonlight. Why didn't I come here before? She wondered. She wished the night would never end.
Ooc: Yay time for some fun who: Baalberith wearing: Black padded suit, and carring his rfle Baal had come to the lake for some quiet time, to set his mind straight on a few things in his life. Wandering around the opposit bank to the thill after a long time of staring at the water he waded into it by a few metres to sit on a rock. He was carefull to place his rifle on his knee's to make sure it wouldn't touch the water. He sang a old song about warding the daemons off, until the tune slowly driftd into the distance.
OOC Sorry I couldn't get a better start. Jynx was lying on her back when the old song reached her. She sat up, looking out at the water. Who is that? She wondered, spotting a tall figure on a rock. She noticed the thing in his lap and stood up, backing away a few feet. "I wonder how far that thing can shoot." She muttered, abandoning her relaxed position for a more alert one. There was nothing like the threat of danger to put her on edge.
Baalberith's solumn song stopped abruptly when he noticed a slight speck of movement in the corner of his eye. He turned to face the movement placing his rifle on his back. As he did this he took the night scope off to get a better look at the potential enemy. It didn't take him long to see that it wasn't some daemon or evil shapeshifter looking for revenge. He walked over to the thill placing the scope back on its mounting. "There no need to get so nervious around me, there are worse thing than a tired Takula in this neck-of-the-woods you can trust me on that one." Baal held out his clawed had clearly showing the deep scar on the side "I am Baalberith, the Nightblade sharpshooter. But you may call me Baal."
Jynx hesitated before taking Baal's hand. "I'm Jynx. Nice to meet you." She said quietly. She dropped his hand and stared broodingly at the water. After a moment she turned back to him. "What do you mean, there are worse things in this neck-of-the-woods? I've been here for hours, and nothing has happened. I haven't even seen anyone else except you." She said, confused. What if he's a shapeshifter? Or worse, a daemon? A voice in the back of her mind wondered. She staed up at the moon as she thought.
"Oh I just was saying thats all, I've seen more than my fair share of evilness to realize what is and whats not." He gave her a wide smile at her confusion. He slowly gazed around the lake with his trained eyes, he had been guarding this area for a while hired by some local official. "Strange occurrences he said, pah I've been here for two days and theres nothing to show for it." Thinking out loud in a low voice. He too stared at the water brooding over what to do. "The only odd things here is a slight waft of daemoness, and a mild voice rasping in my head." Baal suddenly jerked his head back coming out of his thinking, realizing that he had said everything out loud. "Aaah you wouldn't happen to have heard of anything odd here?" I hope I didn't scare her.
Jynx returned her attention to him. "Odd? No, not really. One of the local officials told me not to come up here, but I didn't listen. I never do, actually." Jynx thought for a moment. "Sorry, I'm rambling, aren't I? I always do that. Um..." Jynx shifted her feet nervously. "I should go. Sorry if I annoyed you or anything." Jynx turned toward the trees. I'm such an idiot. She thought angrily as she tied her hair back.
Baal looked confused was she rambled slightly. "Your not annoying me I could do with the company at the moment." It was as she left that he noticed that the area was deathly quiet, no birds singing no insects nothing. It was as if they had all been scared off. Oh no not now. "Wait!" He shouted while running after her, rifle in hand. Something bad was coming and she was heading stright to it.
Jynx turned back as a dark cloud covered the moon. Everything went pitch black. Something in her mind shifted to panic and, without thinking, she ran. Stop running, you have to stop! She thought, but her body wouldn't listen. She heard Baal running after her. She wanted to ask him what was happening, but she couldn't make herself speak. Time seemed to stop as she ran through the trees.
Baal charged after her a oddly familiar feeling penetrated his mind one he hadn't felt in a long time. "Vematta" mumbling a name he both hated and feared. As he ran he saw figures in the darkness a deeper shade of black than the shadows. Damn him he's sent them to kill me after all this time. He finally knew what was after him he knew how to kill them his skills had improved since he last met them. Baalberith chanted dark words infusing himself with the very darkness that hunted him, now seeing his enemies as clear as day he fired his energy rifle with its signature click-crack sound killing the shadow daemons while he ran. His right eye never left the scope, his left fixated on the ground in front of him. Some of the daemons were going to head off the thill. Baal snorted in disgust, honor less cowards. Baal fixed one of his knives on the barrel of his gun he was too close to shoot the last one. Roaring as he jumped off a small cliff Baal launched himself into the nearest daemon impaling it through its dark heart. He crept to the daemons ambush sight, the scope placed everything in a mottled green while the dark enchantment he had placed on himself allowed him to see the daemons for what they were. It was then the the daemons were slaughtered to the sounds of click-crack-click, of course a few survived after all you couldn't kill them all. Baal hunted them down as they found Jynx.
Jynx heard gun shots and caught flashes of movement in the shadows while she ran. A group of dark shadows suddenly darted in front of her. She swallowed hard, realizing she'd left her dagger by the lake. Jynx forced herself to stop a few feet from the things. She shook uncontrollably, her eyes darting across the path. It was too hard to see them; they were shadows. She heard another click as Baal fired his rifle, but he was behind her. She had a strange feeling the shadows were all around her. What am I going to do now? She wondered.
Baalberith had caught up with the last few daemons he blasted the "head" off the one right in front of Jynx the rifle shot barely missed her hair lifting it as if it was wind. Baal then bayoneted the one on the right, he gave a quick chant exploding the one on the left in a plume of light. There was five left and just him with a weapon, with a flick from his waist sheaf a silver tanto thudded into the ground in front of Jynx. "I could do with another blade at my side." He stood by her side waiting for the daemons attack.
Jynx picked up the weapon without taking her eyes off the shadows in front of her. She flipped it quickly around her finger, getting used to it, and then kept a tight grip on the handle as she closed her eyes. Jynx focused as best she could on any sound, relying on all her senses but sight. She stabbed at the air to one side, away from Baal, as the daemons lunged forward.
Heh, she's good. Baal used his age-made height advantage to spin is rifle like a spear slashing a great cut down the front of the nearest daemon. "For the memories of my home town you shall be thrown into utter damnation." His shout blasted so loud that it made all the daemons step back. Baalberith hacked at another turning to another before the first one even hit the ground. Only two left. It was then that he realized that one was missing kneeling he sighted the missing daemon shooting it dead even with the blade still attached. He left the last one to the girl.
Jynx stood, listening. After a moment, everything went quiet. There was one left, but she couldn't hear it. "Come out and play, coward." She muttered. Something moved in the trees. A strange snarling sound errupted. Jynx's hand flicked out sending the knife into a tree. The snarling stopped, and Jynx opened her eyes. "Is that all of them?" She asked, turning and pulling the knife out of the tree.
Baal turned back towards Jynx powering down the rifle. He was pleased that she fought so well against them. "You fight well by the way, where did you learn to fight like that?" He took the knife off the gun sheaving it on his right hip. "Yes that was all of them."
Jynx passed back the dagger, turning to walk back to the lake. "My brother taught me how to fight when we were little." She said, looking up as the mon began to shine again. "Why did those things attack us?" She asked.
Baalberith looked at the dagger in his hand but after a while gave it back. "Keep it, a reward for showing true courage as my rifle was mine." He thought back to when he was her age, shivering for a second. "Well when I was young the village I grew up in was attacked by these creatures, I fought alongside a holy warrior. He saved my life as I did his, thats why, the daemons wanted revenge." "Your brother must have been a good fighter too." Baal smiled as the rays of moon light hit his scales, the dark clouds had gone.
Jynx took the knife, studying the blade. "Thanks. I've been needing a new knife." She thought about what he'd said. "So, those daemons were after you for revenge? Weird." "My brother is a good fighter. He travels a lot, so he taught me how to defend myself. He's an assassin." She explained.
Baalberith stared at her for a while thinking but eventually turning his gaze to the stars. After a little bit he decided it was time to leave. "Keep practicing okay, been nice to fight beside you." "We will probably meet again someday and take care of that blade it's been through a lot, bye" Baal slowly walked away pleased that no one had come to harm. The last Jynx saw of him that day was a deep red shadow chanting a sad song.
