Well we started web design today in my HND class, however the tutor himself has never used any of the programs we've used, and had never used Dreamweaver - the program he's supposed to be teachingUS - our whole class is doomed. Not only that he Argued with me on the fact i said for animations on a home page a skip link could be put in, for those who couldn't download flash players etc. What is there to bleedin' argue?! i mean, he said animations shouldn't be long if they are online etc - fair enough i agree - but to stand there and argue that longer animations mean that people won't - as in it'll definately doom a website to no views - log on to your site ever ( yes he said ever) i'd be aswell to teach them damn class - we know as much as he does, more infact - he hasn't used the basics of photoshop, indesign, illustrator etc either @_@ DOOMED /endrant
awww, im sorry Mori. If it is any relief, dreamweaver is a wonderful program that is easy to use. I am also sure there are many online tutorials! Also, I can teach your tutor a lesson on design lol. I used to be a designer last year. I did everything from pre-press, to post-press
If your tutor is as incompetent as you claim, Morichai, then you may benefit from contacting higher authorities in your school and expressing your dissatisfaction to them. If they agree with your conclusions about your tutor, then they may take steps to have him replaced with someone more qualified to teach you and your class. Speaking to us at RaL will probably not change your predicament. However, contacting the correct people in real life may make the circumstances in your life more favorable. Best of luck. -Phoenix
One would imagine that the best course of action is "find a new teacher"... failing that, there's always the option of violence. Bleach in the toilet bowl, ammonia in the tank.
*Ahem* This'll make more sense if you read the second part of this first XDD. Anywho, yeah. I wouldn't worry about him in terms of teaching. The fact he doesn't know how to use the programs is laughable, in my opinion. I do disagree with Sinok in part. I dislike Dreamweaver. I find it counter intuitive. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but it works in the end. It looks to me like this'll be virtually self-directed study for this term. That's not a bad thing. But if I remember correctly, your Brief isn't exactly the most clear either O_o' Um... tutorials. Lots of them :D You can't go too far wrong with online tutorials and magazines ^_^ Not to worry, lass ^^ He's not worth your time. Arguing with him must have defined the absolute depth of his stupidity =) //// We've talked about this lecturer dude before. He's just a sad, insecure little man. The guy doesn't really qualify as a man, let alone a teacher. Given your build, you can't make yourself less noticeable. He's going to take advantage any chance he gets. Thing is, he's on the College's list as a substitute, so they're going to call him in now and again. There are very few options open to you. Filing complaints against him will only get you so far, as I know your College isn't so great for that kind of thing and dealing with that issue (as well as other confidential information Oo'). It might be an idea to start a petition to get the dude to resign or something. His lack of control must have showed itself in other classes on other students.. Failing all of that, I would opt for either or both of the following: * Get in his face about it and make him regret doing what he does. * Convince Oz to do it instead of you =) There's only so much you can do. In College mission statements, they do say that they aim to provide a comfortable environment conducive to productive learning. This lecturer is, by his shameful behaviour, going against the College code of conduct and the agreement he would have with the principal -- who is across the way >> And I just realized this has nothing to do with what you just said, but it's been on my mind... (adds //// at the top of here)... and wanted to say it ^^; food for thought. RIGHT, back up to the top to answer on the issue.
If it's any consolation Mori, my computer teacher in high school was pretty much the same way. I actually taught him CSS. Consider yourself lucky that you even get to work with Photoshop, InDesign, and all those good things. My high school didn't even have a web design/graphics course. :x I'm all self-taught when it comes to that stuff. I was even able to get "Prior Learning Credit" at my college since I knew more than the teachers there. Self-learning really isn't all that bad though (I find it even more gratifying as well). There are tons of tutorials out there and limitless information on the internet. If you've got any questions - let me know. I know my way around lots of programs and can give you a hand over msn/aim if you need it. :) I really don't recommend using Dreamweaver either. It likes to insert a lot of "garbage" code, which while it may look nice, isn't very efficient nor clean. Icky. I just use a plain text editor for all of my coding (http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/site.htmNotepad++</a>).
Thanks guys ^-^ i really needed to rant that out though, I'm really quite appreciative that youz are willing to help me too, i'm not so much worried for me as the other people in my class. I'm the only one who even knows the extreme basics of coding....i can at least make a table for my text and things....other people aren't so lucky :( I didn't get to use all that stuuf at high school either though :( i'm getting our class rep to put in a formal complaint about the lack of expertise our tutor has...i'm not the only one who's annoyed with it. He also lacks the manners to avert his eyes froms girls chests, which until we can catch him doing with more than one witness watching - and none of us flaunt it if you know what i mean >_<
