The snow on the ground was crusted over with ice, but it was thin enough and the pendragon just heavy enough that she continually fell through and landed nearly knee-deep in cold snow. It was making her angry. It was true that her silver-gray scales did not hold snow, and water tended to slide off her, but her scales did nothing to keep out the cold. Vytani had originally come out of the warmth of her cave home just for the sake of coming out; it had snowed a lot the past week, making it nearly impossible for her to leve her cave. This had meant, among other things, that her hatchday had been very lonely and plagued with cabin fever. She was - or at least had been - happy to be free again. She wasn't one for long stints indoors, despite the cold. But now the cold was finally getting to her. her legs and paws were numb by that time, the tip of her tail and her nose stinging with bitter cold. I got out for a while, she thought as a shiver racked her frame. Maybe it's about time I head for home. She turned, intending to do just that, and immediately slipped down through the crust of ice again. Cursing, she pulled herself out of the snow, and was about to begin running for home when a thought occurred to her. I haven't done anything cryokinetic for a while, she thought, continuing to run to keep herself from falling again. But I bet if I concentrate, I could keep this ice from letting me fall through. She kept her momentum going as she prepared herself; then, finally, she stopped, concentrating and calling on the energy of Fronima. This shouldn't be too difficult, considering her weight and build, but she hadn't practiced in a while. There were a couple of moments where her chryokinesis worked as she wished. She stood on top of the thin crust of ice, and it did not cave in beneath her. She began to feel proud of herself - and then, without warning, as her concentration wavered, she fell through the crust of ice and landed in snow up to her stomach. All four feet were trapped now. The sudden shock of the cold snow on so much of her body at once kept her still for a moment, before she finally rolled onto one side, freeing her legs from the snow. And, coincidentally, freezing more of her body. In even more of a bad mood than she had been before, Vytani pulled herself to her feet and wondered about another trick: perhaps she could move the snow a bit in front of her, making a less-deep path for her to tread home. That wouldn't involve her falling in, anyway. She stood in the tracks she'd already made when she had rolled, so there was no chance of breaking through the fragile crust again, and concentrated again, trying to shift the snow to make a path for her.
