It was jammed pack at the height of the noon hour, which was to be expected. Many young thills and staff alike were after lunch at that precise moment, and Gemini couldn't have felt more overwhelmed then than she had eariler in a large classroom where there were beady eyes of every shape, size and colour gawking at her when she managed to trip over her own feet. She knew how to mingle around others, but right now she just wanted to be left alone. There were a few stray familiar faces that she noticed from classes in previous days and even a couple of hours ago, but there wasn't much of a place to sit. A few of the thills had even gone outside to sit on the cool and cloudy day, but Gemini didn't want to risk getting wet in case it did rain.

This was certainly a mess in her book, and she stayed close to a wall that was out of the way, and yet near a door if indeed she banked on bolting out of the cafeteria for some unknown reason other than a sensory overload and pure mayhem pushing on the panic button. As if someone had snapped their fingers finally, a few sated pendragons had finished and were leaving, and there was plenty of needy eyes spying on that one spot. Gemini however, moved just as deft and smoothly as possible, taking up one of the seats with someone else who happily piled a couple of books on the bench next to them, much to their friend's dismay, who moved them. They didn't say anything to Gemini (if they had she didn't hear them from the noise) and only moved on to get in line, giggling as they walked away in the process.

Now, she was alone for the most part, those who were going to eat were already in line and some were still eating, and a few just lounging around and talking amongst themselves. The sandy 'dragon did hope that she was blending in for the most part, and as far as she reckoned; she was. Once more she had donned a black shirt with her usual baggy jeans, and had already opened up a book to read. She already had food with her, it was in the worn satchel that had been drug along, and while one hand was holding the book up, the other reached in and grabbed a fruit of some sort, which she bit into from the get-go, not even paying attention what it was she was eating. It could have been something bitter, but it didn't really have much taste that she was thinking about. No, Gemini was thinking about what was going to happen next in the book she had, she wanted to know if the thill in that book was murdered or not, and if they were, who did it? Gemini liked a good mystery when she could find one.

The arden lazily shifted his foot so that the rainbow-colored hackey sack arching through the air hit the side of his sneaker with a faint rustling sound, before being half-heartedly flipped up again. Xerxes had only recently learned how to play hackey sack and - for a beginner - was rather good at it. Either it was a natural talent or he had just been lucky so far. Either way, he was having fun doing it. His foot-eye coordination was certainly improving. Not that he was sure he really needed foot-eye coordination, except as far as his walking went and he didn't tend to trip, so that wasn't a big deal. Xer' snorted and left both feet on the ground, letting the hackey sack fall to the ground without bothering to stop its descent. It lay there, on the grass, in a sad fashion, before he picked it up and pocketed it, looking around with a seemingly casual cursory glance. No one cool around.

With a sigh, the male ran his hand through his hair, the jagged locks spiking up in strange angles, as the holding gel moved to let his fingers through. He made a faint "hmm" sort of noise, then shrugged one shoulder and walked off, shoving his hands into his pockets in the process. Everyone was going on their own way. A young thill from one of his classes winded her way over to Xerxes and grinned toothily at him. One of the male's eyebrows shot up, his ears twitching twice before he settled his eyes on the female. He didn't remember her very well, definitely not her name, so he didn't really want to stop and chat. Unfortunatly, she was in front of him. So he stopped. Stared at the thill curiously. "Eh. Yes?" He queried, somewhat flatly.

She didn't seem to notice that he didn't really want to talk with her, as she purred faintly beneath her breath and tried to press herself closer to the punk arden. He immedietely stepped back and frowned, disapprovingly. Again, she appeared unaware that she was invading personal space and pouted convincingly, her bottom lip jutting out as she stayed still, at least, this time. "Do you not remember me, Alto? Your good buddy from military class?"

Xerxes grinned, though it was a grin that did not extend past his lips. "As a matter of fact, no and my name is not Alto. Have a nice day." With that, he detoured around the thill and walked off. He was not a friendly or sociable chap with most. Very few were worth his time.

Slipping into the cafeteria, Xer' looked around quietly and settled his eyes on a girl who was reading. Nearby her, a couple of chairs were empty. Well, empty of pendragons. One appeared to have a complete set of the encyclopedia stacked on it. Quirking an eyebrow, the male drew closer, eyed the books, and promptly picked them up, setting them in a different spot so he could sit. He had been tempted to just shove them off, but he wasn't one to make dramatic motions, either, and that would certainly draw attention. "I do hope those weren't your books, miss, but if they were, I should sincerely apologize and hope you don't mind me taking their spot." The arden blinked innocently at Gemini, while his lips smiled faintly.

So he could be nice. Just not to losers who had approached him like that other thill. Over all, he looked rather... anti-conformity. Black shirt with a mysterious "E" entwined with an "X" symbol and a pair of baggy khaki cargo pants. Not to mention the sweatband - again with the EX symbol - on his right wrist and a white leather band on his right with pressed symbols that weren't obvious. Silver hoops through each lower hole on his ears and ebony studs in the higher ones. Yep. He sure didn't look like a nice guy.

"Oh no, they aren't mine." she responded quickly, a faint smile coming to her lips. Gemini wasn't really one to be so judgemental at first glance, but a gut feeling seemed to be crying out warnings at her. But, he seemed... polite enough. Instead of returning to her book, she merely took a glance at the page number and commited such to memory before stuffing it back down into her bag, her one hand still holding the half-eaten fruit. "They belong to a couple of... ditzy looking things over there in line somewhere," she continued on, a failing attempt at conversation. Gemini didn't even know if the thill cared who's they were or not, but since he halfway inquired if they were hers – well, it just seemed to make sense to her.

She had seen him around before, although she wasn't too sure where. Probably the courtyard before, and judging by what he wore he wasn't too different from the others (save for markings) that she had run across quite recently. She chewed on her lip absentmindedly for a moment, green eyes flickering as she focused to watch what was going on behind him. So far, there weren't any ditzy things come over to cry about some punk-looking 'dragon having stole their spot, and she was thankful for that. Perhaps they'd leave her and him both alone. "I think I've seen you around... but I don't believe we've met. Gemini's the name." she said, peering over the rim of her glasses at him, shakily holding out her hand in a haphazard greeting. Just a friendly one, it couldn't hurt anything, right? It would certainly give her something to write back home about and make someone in that wretched house happy.

Xerxes was really a nice guy, when one got to know him, he just didn't make good first impressions. Mostly, this was because he really didn't care what others thought. If she hated him, that was tough, if she liked him, that was nice. No biggie to him, either way. They could be friends or enemies, whatever pleased her. Though he didn't really think of many as "enemies", so much as pendragons he didn't like much. There were a couple notable exceptions to this general rule, but he didn't care to think about them right now. They weren't around and he wouldn't waste his energy fuming over them, that was just giving them power over him. No one had power over Xerxes Tenor except Xerxes Tenor himself.

As she introduced herself, he proferred a hand to her for a handshake, smiling amicably. "Xerxes Tenor, Miss Gemini, it's truly a pleasure. Might I ask what you were reading just now?" He couldn't pass up the opportunity to find a new author. Xer was one of those readers who tended to read a lot for a month or so, then read scarcely for a couple more. It depended on time and desire. The "ditzy things" that Gemini had mentioned came back with their food and one stared at Xer' with a dropped jaw. He wiggled his fingers at her and grinned. Quickly looking away, the two girls went somewhere else. Clearly, their books and seats weren't fighting over it with Xerxes.

  5.

Her smiled was reinforced when the raven furred pendragon shook her head, and inquired about the book. Gemini's green eyes darted back to her bag, and she inwardly smiled at the thought of being able to read it later, perhaps when it wasn't so loud within the confinement of the lunchroom. Given that she had a bit of freetime after she would most likely stowaway to her dorm room and read it alone. "Just a mystery-like book. I suppose it's a different twist on Romeo and Juilet, only Romeo is murdered. I reckon that Juilet did it, but I haven't gotten that far yet." she said, failing to remember the title. It might have just plainly been 'Romeo & Juilet', but such had completely slipped her mind as the two other pendragons seemingly reappeared and stared at the pair.

And yet, he managed to make them go away for the time being, their books left with her and him both. "Huh, I guess... they'll get them later." she said quietly, although it was more or less to herself; a thought spoken aloud. Apparently they had seen him before, but for the most part she was glad to see that they didn't run over and sling themselves into his lap, or some crude thing that others like them did. Then again, she was being critical and stereotyping him, when she didn't even know him. "So uh, what drags you into here at the busiest time of the day?" Gemini asked, pushing her glasses back up her muzzle a bit to prevent them from sliding off completely.

But in the same stride, she realized just about how stupid her question was. They were sitting in a lunchroom at lunchtime. Xerxes had probably come to eat, just like she had, although she was just in there to be in there. It was better than being stuck outside with the fact that it was liable to pour down rain without warning, to have to deal with other 'dragons that were running around as if they were missing their head. Then again, that wasn't to say that some sort of gag parlour trick hadn't gone wrong before and she had witnessed it. But in the meantime, to make up for her rather blank stare that had absentmindedly crawled on herself while she watched the same two ditzy things wander around looking for a table, she took another bite from her choice of food.

The male was glad to hear it wasn't some dumb romance novel or, rather, that it wasn't the regular ole plot. There was a murderous twist. He had no respect for females who tittered over romantic plots that were boringly repetitive. Reading about five books of different plots in romance was pretty much the sum of their creativity. Of course it was a "chick thing", from what he had heard. Still, were they so easily drawn into stories that they didn't realize it was the same thing as the last one they read? He liked to imagine that there was more intelligence in a girl's brain than that. Which was why he didn't hang out with pendragons who read romance novels. A relief, therefore, that he wouldn't have to ditch this particular girl over her choice in books.

And at least those other thills weren't her buddies. They seemed like ditzes of the highest annoyance. He truly couldn't stand their type, which was why he was glad they hadn't come over. Xer was already in enough trouble without getting more punishments. Of course Demori knew him well enough now that she just shrugged it off like it was nothing and set him to his duties. He never hurt anyone, just irritated them. Well... alright, he had slugged a few guys, but they had deserved it. Tenor defended the defenseless, when it became necessary, which got him into a lot of trouble.

Gemini's question made him wink playfully, pulling a sack lunch out of the messenger bag that he hadn't been paying attention to until then, though it had been slung at his side the entire time. He dropped it on the table and tipped his head to the side, narrowing one eye at her as if suspicious. "Well, you see, actually, I was here to meet girls. But I guess I just don't have the wiley charms of must guys, so I'll stick with eating lunch." It was a joke, clearly, as he pulled a sandwich out of his bag. One that was rather sadly crumpled with little bits of lettuce sticking out of the sides.

She laughed at his joke, amused with the fact that someone like him would be looking for girls. After all, he probably had one (or more) she reckoned by the way he looked. Or maybe not, she didn't know anything much about Xerxes than what she had learned in the last five minutes that they had even exchanged names. "Oh, well you could have fooled me." she said sheepishly, a wiry grin on her face. In immediate hindsight, however she realized that she came off more flirtatious than she would have normally intended to do.

Regardless, she didn't think that he would mind, for the most part. It was all just one big joke. Eyeing his lunch for a moment, she decided to change the subject just a little bit. "A lot of others seem to bring their own lunch, is the food really as bad as I've heard?" she asked with a slight chuckle. Perhaps it was the things in the food made fueled the ditzy things. She didn't linger long on the subject when a loud clatter ceased a good portion of the talking going on around them.

A few shouts and a curse here or there and it seemed that two thills had run into one another. Trays, food, silverware and other things galore were to the floor, but Gemini didn't pay attention long, and like the rest of the room, the talking started back up, despite the fact that the two 'dragons were already shoving each other around. It seemed to be just another dispute, just another day.
