Day ~ 34th Month ~ Dyo Year ~ Year 2 Characters ~ Eve In Character Rain poured from the sky. Eve attempted shielding her face from the rain, but she kept weakening with every wingbeat. She was very high in the sky. The constant rhythmic sound of the downpour hitting the ground below was so loud, Eve could barely hear herself think. She would have to figure a way out of this before she collapsed in exhaustion. Realizing she could still hang in there for a few more minutes, the final stretch of what seemed to be a difficult journey would end on a mountain she was closing in on. She struggled keeping her wings straight as she glided for a cliff. But she made it, stumbling a little bit. She managed to advance a few steps, but stumbled again into a puddle of water. This time, she didn't stand up. All she wanted was to sleep. But her eyes stayed open. She saw the edge of the cliff ahead of her and the ground that was so far down. Thunder rumbled loudly and lightning briefly illuminated the sky. As the lighting and thunder ceased, a small black niotie seemingly was walking by the cliff. Right at the edge. It was skilled at keeping his balance there. But he stumbled. Eve struggled to her feet and pounced for the edge of the cliff. But he was gone. She pounded the ground in despair. Why had she let him get so close to the edge? She looked down. She followed one individual raindrop with her keen eyes. It fell all the way down to the jagged rocks that had seemingly just been 'waiting' for the poor young Pendragon to fall into. Eve just couldn't comprehend what had just happened. She was completely guilty of this. Out of Character This is just a dream of Eve's, and if you'd like to join it, that would be great.
Suddenly, sharp laughter punctured the thick, sotrmy air. It had come from only a little ways off, where yet another child was cheerfully playing along the cliff's edge. She seemed without a care in the world, a little orb of sunlight enveloped in dreary cloth. Mud clung tightly to her black and white pelt, broken at times by dulled blue. She looked no older then perhaps 700. Laughing once more, the nioti threw back her head to gaze lovingly at the clouded sky, oblivious of her steps as they carried her dangerously close to the edge. Once or twice a foot would look as if it were going to carry over, only to fall in place at very end of the land. Amidst the bubbly laughter, a song broke out, and with all its childish simplicity, somehow gave the whole image an eerie look. "Raindrops are falling on my head..."
Eve, in shock, heard the faint vocals muffled by the millions of raindrops hitting the ground simultaneously. Her chin, in the widening puddle of fresh, cool water rose to see the source of those playful words. They seemed so unreal, Eve honestly thought she would be the only one out here. The light purple hair on her head, usually long, wavy and flowing, now drooped from the water's weight. Water dripped off the tips of the feathers on her wings. She rose a paw and pushed some hair away from her eyes. Seeing another nioti at a cliff not too far away, she tried to yell, but the words she attempted to say came out in a gag. She struggled to her feet, trying to get herself noticed, and telepathed, { Stay away from the edge of that cliff! } But just then, her head began throbbing, as if a hammer repeatedly hit her on the forehead. Eve's last resort would be to try to walk to the niotie, but something prevented her. Her feet felt so heavy. But seeing the niotie's steps getting closer and closer to the edge of the cliff, and remembering the horrific scene of the previous one, she kept her steps paced, and slowly approaced the niotie.
The young one swirled around at the telepath, frowning at the one before her. Her lips moved, but no sound came out, rather, another telepath. {You're not my mommy!} With that, she stuck out her tongue, and in one swift, rebellious motion, ran over the edge of the cliff. Her body didn't fling into the abyss below, however. Rather, her feet met lightly with the cliff side, and she was running vertically downwards, an almost impossible feat. The nioti was scurying as fast as her tiny legs could carry her, but in that manner that children have when they want to be caught.
Maternal instincts flooded her mind. How could she just let the little one die like that? Why were they all right here, jumping over the edges? Mass suicides at such a young age? Eve could hardly comprehend it. When she got her telepathed message returned, her jaw dropped in shock. { Heh, I guess I hadn't thought of that, } she telepathed, but then the nioti hopped off the edge. Eve ran for the edge of the cliff in a scurry, her feet still heavy but her mind pushing her to keep going. She felt as if she was walking in thick mud, but it was actually on solid rock. She looked off the edge of the cliff. This one was different, it was possible to run down this one, unlike the other one, which was just a vertical fall into some jagged rocks at the bottom. What could Eve do, but follow her? She spread her wings and glided for the bottom. The rain continued pouring buckets and thick, muggy fog floated 25 feet above the ground, so as Eve descended, she found that the foot of the cliff ended in a forest. She landed, and looked up once more. She was completely unable to see the cliff she had taken off from due to the fog. Nor could she see any sign of the mischievous nioti.
{Over here!} Came the eerie, melodious thoughtspeak. She stood now in a spot where just a moment ago there had been nothing. The little girl burst into a riot of giggles, her small form keeling over in merriment. Large, mischievous eyes gleamed as they watched her. {NO,} came additional telepath, harsh but a bit sarcastic, an odd thing for one her age, {You never do!}
Eve certainly didn't like the young one's attitude, but she played along. With a giggle, she stepped towards her. { I guess not. But then again, how would YOU know? I've never seen you before. } Her thoughtspeak came in a friendly, yet serious tone. { Did you, by any chance, know that other young Pendragon that fell off the cliff? } Her words came this time like an echo that resounded for miles. She then suddenly felt like she was in perfect health, the weight on her feet gone, her headache gone, as with her voice. "Why do you give me attitude, anyways?"
She shook her head, almost sadly, feet rooted to the ground as she stared at the adult with wide eyes bearing a childish expression. "I don't even know what that means." Rain-soaked tuft of hair was shook roughly, water sliding easily along each strand. Round cheeks of youth shifted slightly as her skull rattled, trying in vain to rid itself of the wetness. She stopped suddenly, as if only then hearing the lady's first question, and tilted her head until it became a perfect right angle, as if laying sideways on a straight horizantal surface. A single small digit rose to poke at ear, cleaning it free of water, and then the niotie straigthened herself. She looked ready to ask for a repeat, but instead burst with, "I have no idea. Do you like chocolate?"
"Sure, chocolate's pretty good..So you don't know that young Pendragon?" Eve asked again. If she did know the nioti, she'd be crying over it's death, I suppose, she told herself, trying to forget the child's attempts to not answer that question. What could she be hiding, anyways? Elegant feathered wings extended and flapped violently, as if Eve was to take flight, but she was only ridding them of water. "Please, let's take cover? That is, if you wish to stay with me..I guess. And about the word 'attitude', you'll learn soon. As you said, I'm not your mother, so I can't teach you these things." In fact, Eve didn't know anything about nioties, and what they should learn..
