Figured I'd might as well start this thread. I think in the future I'd like to have a page with some recommended books from people here. Sort of an, "If you like Ramath-lehi, you may also like reading..." So tell me what your favourite books are and who wrote 'em. :] Edit: Currently working on the recommendations list. Let me know if I'm missing anything crucial. :) http://astore.amazon.ca/shadowlack-20http://astore.amazon.ca/shadowlack-20</a>
Um. Well, as for anything RaL-related - H.P. Lovecraft and Nietzche had influenced a lot of the themes in my writing, Atti moreso than anyone else. But... uh. as for favorite books? Mhm - I have soooo many. I'll have to think on that.
Hmmm I read plenty of books wrote by R.A. Salvatore mostly. As well as Magician, Silverthorn, A Darkness at Sethanon. By Raymond E. Feist. These three was the Rift war saga which I love a lot. As for anything Ral related one of my favourite books is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_FangWhite fang</a> by Jack London. Which you guys might like.
Ooh. Err. I've been reading mostly modern stuff, novelized memoirs being my most recent kick. Like Dave Eggers's A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, and Special Topics in Calamity Physics by Marisha Pessl. But I think RaLers who enjoy a bit of magic in their books would like one of my favorite summer-reading (lol) authors, Terry Pratchett. Anything from his Discworld series, really, or Good Omens, a book he co-authored with my HERO Neil Gaiman.
Edit: WHOOT for Pratchett! My favorite books. *sighs* Well, I recomend the His Dark Materials trilogy by Phillip Pullman I think. The books are the Golden Compass (which yes is becoming a movie and no matter how good the movie is the book is far better), the Subtle Knife, and the Amber Spyglass. Also, almost anything by Terry Pratchett. THUD, The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents, the entire Discworld series, and Good Omens. His books are all very hilarious. The ones about the watch like THUD and Guards Guards from the Discworld series are the best ones. Vimes is my hero. As for Ral-ness books...there is always The Sight...I dont remember who its by, but its about wolves, very lovely. I think the same author wrote a book called Firebringer which is about deer. Also, Jane Lindskold has a series about a girl brought up by wolves. The first book is Through Wolf's Eyes. She also has a great book called Brother to Dragons, Companion to Owls which isnt really Ral-ness but is still really awesome. Made me want to get a wolf tattoo. Also, Isaac Azimov is an awesome writer and has some great books about future technology and that sort of Ral-ness thing. One such book is I-Robot, and there is also the Foundation trilogy. And there is the Redwall series, all about animals and mice and moles, ferrets, foxes and their wars. My favorite was Outcast of Redwall...simply because it was about a ferret. Mrrg. I think the author is Jacques...but Im not sure... Thats all I can think of...though I am sure I am missing a whole bunch. But yes. Those are my favorite books and ones I recomend to the fantasy-theme oriented person.
I took some time out to read "The Fall of Reach", the first in the Halo Trilogy by William C. Dietz, to boost my writing ability. Brian Lumley's "Vampire World 2: The Last Aerie" was cool (but if you don't read the first one, whatever it's called, the second one can be reeally confusing at times). Keep an out for "Magic Terror", ISBN: 0-00-710990-3. It's written by Peter Straub, who's praised by Stephen King as being unequalled in the scream factory. If you're a Stephen King fan, check this guy out. "Magic Terror" is a compilation of seven tales that create fear out of everyday life, while retaining literary elegance. Lol, on the back it says, "He startles you into laughter in the face of events so dark that you begin to question your own moral compass." So if you think you're kinda weird, it's a must read in my opinion.

And the author I'm about to name is both loved and hated by many due to how awesome/horrible her books are, but you be the judge. Tamora Pierce. Oh yes. And this book is for anyone and everyone. Who Moved My Cheese? =p

Yay another Salvatore reader.... oh and Dumu i could lend you the whole halo series if you want. including the forth, yes there is a fourth too.
I... have to plug these here as well. Since they just came back in print, along with a fifth book to the series. Prehistoric sentient cats = cool. Anywho, I recommend these to anyone who likes David Clement-Davies. Can't wait to get my hands on the newest book... mwahaha. http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/014...15121&creative=330641&creativeASIN=0142408433</a> http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/014...15121&creative=330641&creativeASIN=0142408123</a> http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/014...15121&creative=330641&creativeASIN=0142409448</a> http://www.assoc-amazon.ca/e/ir?t=shadowlack-20&l=as2&o=15&a=0142409154</a>
